Bumpdate // Week 25

Happy Monday! I’m super excited this week because 25 weeks seems like a major milestone to me. Only 15 weeks to go! That is equal parts exciting and terrifying. I’m terrified for two reasons: 1) we have a million things to do before she arrives and 2) somehow this child has to exit my body. My niece was born last Monday and, the first time I held her (she was just over 7 pounds), I held her against my belly and shuddered thinking about the fact that my own baby girl will probably grow to be that size. How in the world is my belly going to expand to hold a baby that size and, more importantly, how is my body going to expand even more to allow said baby to enter the world? Scary stuff!

How far along are you? 25 weeks and 3 days.

How big is baby? The size of a head of cauliflower. According to The Bump, she’s between 13 and 14 inches and between 1.5 and 2.5 pounds.

Total weight gain? Haven’t weighed myself since my last appointment so I’m still at 9 pounds. I’m interested to see if that has changed at my Centering appointment on Thursday.

How are you feeling? Aside from a freak vomiting episode this morning, I’m feeling great! Heartburn and hip/pelvis aches are still my major complaints, but my energy levels are back up so I’m good.

What are you wearing a lot of lately? This is going to sound a little conceited, but I am so much cuter, and more fashionable, as a (second trimester) pregnant person. I’m going to mourn the loss of this bump when this is all over. I don’t know if it’s because I’m feeling better, or just because I think there’s nothing worse than looking sloppy when you’re pregnant (in public – at home you can do whatever the heck you want!), but I am having so much fun putting cute maternity outfits together. Last week, I picked up a few maternity pieces at Gap and I’m kicking myself for not going sooner. If you’re pregnant, waddle yourself over there today! I promise to take photos of my maternity outfits and post them soon!

How’s your sleep? Unfortunately, I’m still dealing with pregnancy insomnia. It takes me forever to fall asleep and then I wake up a bunch of times so I never feel fully rested. I hope this doesn’t last for the next 15 weeks. I need my rest before the nugget gets here!

Food cravings or aversions? I’ve learned that my pregnant stomach absolutely cannot handle fried or fatty foods, but I’m not complaining because that helps me keep my nutrition in check. I do crave sweets a lot, but I’m trying not to go too crazy.

Best moment this week? Shopping for baby girl clothes! I spend at least an hour a day browsing online baby stores and pinning my favorite outfits. I ordered two Kate Spade baby outfits last week, but I’m going to try to keep the shopping in check until after my baby shower.

What are you looking forward to? I’m really looking forward to my baby shower in December. Now that we know we’re having a girl, my mom and I are brainstorming themes and starting the planning. Of course I’m excited to see all of the cute little outfits and gifts she gets, but I’m mostly excited to celebrate her arrival with all of my favorite women.

Any milestones this week? I’m not sure if this is an official milestone, but I finally felt kicks closer to my belly button which means I feel less pressure in my pelvis and on my bladder. I can also see some of her kicks on the outside of my stomach. It is so weird, but also super cool.

 

Bumpdate // Week 24

In case you missed it on Instagram, Baby Everett is a GIRL! I cannot even explain how excited I am. I didn’t even realize how badly I wanted a girl until I saw her little lady parts on the ultrasound screen. There are just so many special things about having a girl; I’m a firstborn girl myself, I have two little nieces (one entering the world today!) who will be her first best friends, all of the grandchildren in my family so far are girls, and, of course, there is nothing in the world like a mother/daughter bond. I think the best part of all though is that I feel so much more connected to my baby now that I can call her by her name. This little person who constantly moves around in my belly, and is wreaking so much havoc on my body, isn’t just “the baby.” She’s my daughter. And I can’t wait to meet her!

How far along are you? 24 weeks and 3 days.

How big is baby? The size of a cantaloupe. I don’t know her exact measurements, but I know that she weighs at least a pound and is long enough for me to feel movement across my belly and (finally) close to my belly button (as opposed to my lower belly and pelvis).

Total weight gain? 9 pounds – Although I didn’t feel like taking my Minnetonka boots off when I got on the scale at my ultrasound appointment and I’m sure those things weigh at least a pound or two.

How are you feeling? So. Much. Better! I only vomited twice last week! I also feel completely normal by 10 or 11am every morning. My heartburn has calmed down (I take one Pepcid Complete every night) and my appetite is pretty much back to normal. My energy levels are much higher, but I still get tired easily. My body is still pretty achy, especially my hips and pelvis, but I will take that over the nausea and vomiting any day.

What are you wearing a lot of lately? I am living in maternity leggings, maternity tank tops (Target makes the best ones) and oversized sweaters (Free People is my go-to).

Have you noticed any stretch marks yet? That one stretch mark on my belly is spreading like a crack in a car windshield. I rub belly oil on it every night, but my skin doesn’t care. Thankfully, it’s pretty light in color so maybe it will fade over time.

Best moment this week? If I had to pick a favorite moment other than our ultrasound, I’d say my favorite moment this week was letting my cousins feel the baby kick for the first time this weekend. I loved seeing their reactions.

What are you looking forward to? Buying tons of baby girl clothes!

 

Bumpdate // Week 23

I cannot believe my baby is the size of a grapefruit! Even though I’m feeling constant movement all over my lower belly, it’s still hard to believe. Despite my denial, time is moving fast and I can feel myself going into nesting mode. My mom is here for a few days helping us turn the office/guest room into the nursery/guest room which is super exciting. I knew with the holidays coming up, and with my newest niece set to join the party in less than a week (!!!), we needed to get a head start on the baby prep. So exciting!

How far along are you? 23 weeks and 3 days.

Total weight gain? Still 4 pounds, but I have another appointment on Friday so we’ll see if that changes.

How are you feeling? I’m afraid to even type this because I don’t want it to be a cruel joke, but I haven’t thrown up since Saturday morning….and I just threw up immediately after typing that sentence, no joke. So rude. Other than that, I am feeling better. I’ve been really picky about my diet (simple, bland foods for the win!) and I’m never far from my Healthy Mama Tame the Flame tablets so that may be why. My body is still really sore (especially my hips and thighs) and I find myself getting winded and needing to sit down a lot more. Ah, the joys of pregnancy.

How’s your sleep? Last week, I discovered that pregnancy insomnia is a thing and I’m definitely experiencing it. It takes me forever to fall asleep and then I wake up multiple times throughout the night. I’ve heard from a lot of other moms that this is very common and often lasts throughout the pregnancy so I’m just dealing with it, but if anyone has any advice I’d love to hear it!

Food cravings? Candy and coffee! Which means I’m slowly getting back to my normal self (I usually have a major sweet tooth). I’ve been treating myself to a tall Starbucks latte a few times a week and a bag or two of my favorite candy whenever the mood strikes.

Food aversions? Sadly, I am no longer able to tolerate anything spicy or heavily seasoned. I also had to take a break from chocolate, dairy, citrus fruits and chicken nuggets (so random) because apparently these foods aggravate heartburn.

What are you looking forward to? We have an ultrasound scheduled for this Friday so we can *hopefully* find out whether Baby Everett is a boy or a girl. We are counting down the days!

Bumpdate // Week 22

That is the most accurate (and funniest) pregnancy meme I’ve ever seen! Those four photos accurately depict my day-to-day life lately. It’s funny, but I was just telling Sam that this last week was a really hard week for me. I’m still struggling with acid reflux issues and they got so bad this week that I felt like I was back in the super nauseous days of the first trimester. I’m having a lot of trouble sleeping because of the reflux which was affecting the rest of my days. And on top of it all, it was rainy and cold all week thanks to Hurricane Joaquin. Thankfully, I got to hear my little nugget’s heartbeat, and commiserate with a bunch of other pregnant women, at my Centering class on Thursday. That always lifts my spirits.

How far along are you? 22 weeks and 3 days.

How big is baby? The size of a papaya (huge!) – baby is most likely weighing in at a full pound now.

Total weight gain? 4 pounds. This blows my mind. When I imagined myself as a pregnant woman, I always assumed I would be one of those women who gains a ton of weight and carries their baby weight all over their body. So far I’ve been dead wrong, but who knows what will happen in the last 18 weeks.

How are you feeling? Besides the acid reflux and the vomiting that continues to persist, my main complaints lately are body aches. I took most of the week off from walking because of the weather and the break did my body zero favors. My hips and groin have been particularly achy in the last few days. If I could give a newly pregnant woman any bit of advice, it would be to stay as active as you can. Even if that means walking a mile or two three times a week. The fresh air will help with the nausea and the movement will help with all of the stretching/shifting/expanding happening in your body.

What are you wearing a lot of lately? I told Sam yesterday after church that I feel like my baby bump forced me to get out of a style rut. In the beginning of my pregnancy I wore sweats every single day. Now that I have a real bump, I love showing it off in dresses and cute tops. I’m hoping to do a maternity style post soon so I can share my personal tips on maternity wear.

What are you looking forward to? Our do-over anatomy scan on the 16th. I am dying to start calling the nugget by his/her actual name!

Any milestones this week? I learned this week that my uterus has now grown past my belly button and that my baby is looking, acting and feeling like a real baby now. It’s so crazy that it took 22 weeks to get to a full pound and in the next 18 weeks, he/she could pack on five, six, seven, or maybe even (but hopefully not!) eight more pounds!
