Bumpdate // Week 30

I hate the weeks after major holidays. You spend days bonding with your family, eating too much food and forgetting about the real world and all of your responsibilities and then, in the blink of an eye, it’s all over and you’re back to your regular routine. The only good thing about the week after Thanksgiving is that this is the time when most people (and businesses) begin to decorate for Christmas. This is the week when we dust off our ornaments, press play on our holiday music playlists and remind ourselves that there are only a few short weeks left until Christmas. I also have another distraction from the post-Thanksgiving blues: I am now only 10 weeks away from my estimated due date. TEN! I have a feeling it will be the longest ten weeks of life, but I’m still excited to be in the final stretch of this pregnancy. A lot has changed in the last few weeks, so let’s get into the bumpdate…

How far along are you? 30 weeks and 3 days.

How big is baby? The length of a cucumber (according to The Bump) and the size of a small cabbage (according to What To Expect). From what I’ve read, she’s weighing in around 3 pounds.

Total weight gain? Still 6.8 pounds as of my last prenatal appointment.

How are you feeling? I’m going to skip over the vomit/heartburn stuff because none of that has changed. I have added a bunch of new symptoms to my list though: shortness of breath (especially after walking up/down the stairs), almost daily headaches, constant aching (in my hips and pelvis), skin (belly) itchiness and lots of pain on the right side of my ribs where my little girl loves to hang out (it took me weeks to figure out what that was). I can definitely tell that these last ten weeks are going to be really tough on my body, so I’m trying to listen to it and give it rest whenever it asks. And if anyone has any advice about the rib situation, please let me know!

What are you wearing a lot of lately? While I can still fit into nearly all of my maternity jeans and leggings, I am quickly outgrowing a lot of my tops. I’m pretty sure my bump grew in size over the weekend. Now I understand why most pregnant women resort to wearing their husbands clothes during the final weeks of their pregnancy instead of buying expensive maternity clothes that can only be worn for a little while longer.

How’s your sleep? My hips and pelvis hurt so badly at night that I hate to have to turn over. When I get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, I usually wake my husband with all of my moaning and groaning, but I just can’t help it. I hear this pain is going to get worse as the baby drops lower and lower in anticipation for delivery. *insert panicked face*

Best moment this week? Of course, spending Thanksgiving with my wonderful family was the best part of my week. Our baby will be the fifth great-grandchild, as well as the fifth girl, on my mother’s side (which is large and extremely close-knit). They are all so excited for our baby that it makes me even more excited – and I didn’t even think that was possible!

What are you looking forward to? My baby shower on Sunday! Although I still have to find something to wear…

Any milestones this week? This isn’t exactly a milestone, but my belly is feeling huge! And my belly button has officially popped out. I’ve also noticed that when I run my hand across my belly, I can feel whole body parts instead of just quick kicks or jabs. I will sit there forever trying to figure out if it’s her leg or foot or butt that I’m feeling, but in reality I have absolutely no clue. I can’t even tell if she’s head down or not!

Bumpdate // Week 29

We finally made it to the last week of the 20s! There are only 10 weeks and 4 days left until my due date – ahhhh! Some days, it feels like time is flying and other days it feels like I’m going to be pregnant forever. I don’t know if it’s because the holidays are coming up, and time always flies around the holidays, but I keep panicking that I won’t have everything ready for her arrival. I’ve also entered the nesting phase. I have to keep fighting the urge to get rid of half of the things we own and I’m constantly bugging Sam about house tasks we keep putting off (like cleaning out our garage since we’ve been using it for storage since we moved in). I’m even washing her first load of clothes as I type this. In the back of my mind, I know that we’ll have everything we need for our baby girl, but I can’t help but feel like she has to come home to a perfect house and an even more perfect nursery. Is this normal?

How far along are you? 29 weeks and 3 days.

How big is baby? The size of an acorn squash. She’s around 3 pounds now, but she’ll more than double her weight by the time she enters the world. I just cannot wrap my mind around that.

Total weight gain? 6.8 pounds as of Thursday. Everything I’ve read says to expect to gain a pound a week from here on out, so when I don’t I get a little nervous. However, the baby’s measurements have been right on track since day one so I’m trusting that she’s getting plenty of nourishment. Also, I’m still far under the 15-20 pound limit my midwife gave me at the beginning of my pregnancy, so I have plenty of room to grow in the next 10 weeks.

How are you feeling? I’m still throwing up every morning, but I’m so used to it now that it has become pretty routine. I’m also still fighting off a cold that mostly consists of a really stuffy/runny nose. That’s the main drawback of being pregnant in the Winter. I’m always hot so I don’t wear big coats, but then I get sick because my immune system is suppressed. I still think I’d take that over being in my third trimester in the Summer though. My girl likes to hang low, so I’m still dealing with pressure in my pelvis and hips, but I hear it gets much worse so I don’t want to complain about it just yet.

I had to do a second glucose screening at my prenatal appointment last week and, thankfully, I don’t have gestational diabetes. Unfortunately, my midwife discovered that I am slightly anemic right now. I hardly ever eat red meat and although I do eat dark, leafy green vegetables, I definitely haven’t consumed the amounts I would need to keep my iron levels where they need to be during pregnancy. So now I have to take an iron supplement along with a dose of vitamin C everyday for the remainder of my pregnancy. It’s not really a problem except for the fact that I have to make sure that I take it when I don’t have heartburn because you aren’t supposed to mix the iron supplements with calcium (which is the main ingredient in antacids). I learned that the hard way last night when I had to fall asleep sitting up because I waited until right before bedtime to take my iron supplement. You better believe I won’t make that mistake twice!

What are you wearing a lot of lately? My uniform of choice lately consists of leggings, a tank top, a sweater or cardigan and boots. I can actually still fit a lot of my non-maternity pieces because I’ve always been a fan of loose/flowy clothing, but now I’m getting worried that my entire wardrobe is going to be stretched out when this is all over.

Have you noticed any stretch marks yet? The fact that I’m pretty much “all belly” in this pregnancy is good in many aspects, but bad in one: it’s also the only place where I get stretch marks. My belly button is now framed by red stretch marks. I keep hearing that they will fade in color later, but for now they look pretty bad.

How’s your sleep? When it comes to sleep, I have three complaints: 1) heartburn, 2) hip soreness and 3) bathroom breaks. Last night, I had to get up to use the bathroom FOUR times, not including the two times I went before I fell asleep. I also need to start keeping a snack next to my bed because sometimes all of the work I have to do just to get out of bed makes me hungry, but I’m too tired to go all the way downstairs to the kitchen.

Food cravings/aversions? I crave all of the things I can’t eat because of my heartburn problems: pizza, pasta with red sauce, hot chocolate. Everyone keeps telling me that heartburn equals a head full of hair. If my child comes out bald, I will know that this is really a cruel, cruel world.

Best moment this week? Taking measurements and talking through the nursery decoration plans with my husband the other night. I could only keep his attention for about ten minutes, but they were the best ten minutes of my week! He gives me free reign when it comes to decorating our house, but it’s still nice to be able to bounce ideas off of him and to come up with ideas together.

What are you looking forward to? Spending Thanksgiving with my family and helping my mom decorate for Christmas this weekend.

Bumpdate // Week 28

12239622_10102678439228189_3540426331834751383_nI am officially into the third and FINAL trimester of my pregnancy! I am so excited, but also a little anxious. There are only 12 weeks to go, but there are about 100 things we need to accomplish before she arrives. I started working on a “before baby” to-do list this weekend and it’s quickly turning into the longest list I’ve ever seen. Thankfully, I have a super helpful husband who loves to tackle projects and a mother who can whip things into shape quicker than anyone I know. All I need to do is calm my nerves. But how in the world am I going to do that? I’m going to be someone’s mother in less than 3 months! *insert panicked face emoji*

How far along are you? 28 weeks and 3 days.

How big is baby? The size of an eggplant. Over the weekend, Sam and I went to Trader Joe’s and I held an eggplant next to my belly to show him how big the baby is and we both couldn’t believe it. Later that day, I saw my friend Britnie and her two-week old, seven(ish) pound baby and I still cannot fathom how my eggplant-sized baby is going to grow into a babydoll-sized baby while still inside my belly. Pass the stretch mark cream!

Total weight gain? On paper, I’m still at 6 pounds gained, but only because I haven’t weighed myself since my last prenatal appointment. My belly has definitely grown in the last two weeks so I know I’ve put on at least a pound or two. I’ll find out at my next Centering appointment on Thursday.

How are you feeling? Although I’m still throwing up every morning, I’m feeling much better. I started taking Papaya Enzymes (one of my midwives suggested them because they are great for digestion), as well as being super diligent about taking Pepcid Complete every night before bed which has done wonders for my heartburn. As far as my body goes, I am really starting to feel the extra weight of this baby. It’s harder for me to stand for long periods of time, I am always hot, and I find myself saying “ouch” constantly thanks to all of the lower body aches and pains that come with being seven months pregnant.

What are you wearing a lot of lately? I’m still living in my Gap and Target maternity clothes, but I’m now on the hunt for a dress to wear to my baby shower next month. I need something wintery, but also light in color and weight (remember how I mentioned that I’m always hot?). I’ve been shopping online constantly, but I still haven’t found anything special enough. Please send me your suggestions!

Have you noticed any stretch marks yet? There are now three, reddish stretch marks in the same spot to the left of my belly button. I slather oil and cream on them after every shower, but they’re still pretty scary-looking. I know this last trimester will probably bring a few more stretch marks with it, so I’m looking for an oil that is a little stronger than the one I’ve been using. I’m thinking about trying some of Mustela’s prenatal products. Have any of you tried them?

How’s your sleep? Aside from waking up multiple times to use the bathroom and feeling major pain in my pelvis when I turn from one side to the other, I’m sleeping well. I’ve heard and read that many women have trouble sleeping during the third trimester so I’m trying to savor every good night of sleep I get while I still can.

Food cravings? Hot chocolate with marshmallows, but I think that’s just because it’s getting colder outside.

Food aversions? Still fish and seafood, except for shrimp.

Best moment this week? Officially entering the final stretch of this pregnancy. I woke up on Friday feeling so proud for making it this far, despite the difficulties I’ve faced in this pregnancy so far. I still have a lot of work to do, but I am so close to meeting my daughter (and feeling normal again)!

What are you looking forward to? My baby shower, which is just a few weeks away. My mom and my aunt (who is also a super talented floral and event designer) have come up with the cutest Winter Wonderland theme and I cannot wait to see how everything turns out.

Bumpdate // Weeks 26 & 27

I didn’t do a bumpdate last week because I was too busy throwing myself a pity party because my morning sickness has returned. I had two blissful weeks of feeling normal and then the morning vomiting and constant heartburn came back with a vengeance. So I stayed in my house for a week and felt bad for myself. Now I’ve come to the realization that I’m probably one of those women who will be sick throughout my entire pregnancy. It’s terrible, but I’ll survive. Now let’s get to the bumpdate…

How far along are you? 27 weeks

How big is baby? The size of a rutabaga or an eggplant. I think she’s still around 2 pounds.

Total weight gain? 6 pounds – I went down 3 pounds from my last prenatal weigh-in. That is likely due to the fact that the morning sickness  and vomiting returned causing my regular appetite to vanish. My midwife still doesn’t seem concerned so I’m not worrying about it. The baby is the exact size she’s supposed to be at this point so I’m going to enjoy this lack of weight gain while I can. Who knows what will happen in the next 13 weeks.

How are you feeling? Besides the morning sickness, I feel pretty good. I have, however, noticed that my stamina has completely diminished. Walking up the stairs leaves me huffing and puffing as if I just sprinted down the street. The other day, I even had to take a break while washing dishes because my body refused to stand any longer. What a warm welcome to the third trimester!

Have you noticed any stretch marks yet? I still only see one, but it is long and red and terrifying. I try to keep it moisturized, but there isn’t much I can do about it at this point.

How’s your sleep? No big changes here. I don’t really have pregnancy insomnia anymore, but I still wake up at least three times every night to go to the bathroom or readjust my pillow setup. Just getting prepared for February I guess!

What are you looking forward to? So many things! But today I’m mostly looking forward to meeting our baby girl. I feel like time has slowed down a bit and I’m ready to get to the finish line.
