We made it to our second goal post: 34 weeks! I always breathe a huge sigh of relief when I get here because I have experience with a baby born at 34 weeks. Of course, I wouldn’t want her to be born now, but I know I could handle it if she was. She was measuring 4lbs 11oz at my last growth scan which is almost as big as Harper was at birth (4lb 14.9oz) so I feel comfortable with a baby that size.
A lot has happened since my last update. Most importantly, I graduated from my Maternal Fetal Specialist again! At my last ultrasound, we discovered that my cervix has shortened again (I only have 1.2cm of cervix left) and the funneling has returned, but at this point there’s nothing we can do to stop labor once it starts. That means that I don’t have to have any more cervical checks, thank God! But it also means that we’re officially on Baby Watch.
Yesterday, I had a regular prenatal appointment with my OB. She performed a Group B Strep test (they’re normally done at 36 weeks, but we decided to do it early in case baby comes early) and did a cervical check. I’m 50% effaced, but surprisingly still closed externally. She’s very hopeful that I can make it at least two more weeks. Sam and I are praying for three.
I’m still contracting frequently, but I feel a bit more energized than I have been. I think it’s because I’m not as worried about her being born now that I’m so far along. Even though I knew God would protect her no matter what, I’ve felt a cloud of anxiety hanging over me for the past six weeks. But I feel like it has finally lifted! I have nearly everything ready (hospital bag is packed, newborn clothes are washed, diapers have been ordered) and now all we have to do is wait for sweet baby sister to arrive!
