We made it! I’ve been on baby watch (and bed rest) for eight long weeks, but I finally made it to my goal. My OB and MFM both wanted baby girl to keep cooking until 36 weeks and we’re finally here. And because babies come when they want and, more importantly, because God had a plan to keep her safe the entire time, she’s nestled quite comfortably in there and it doesn’t look like she’s coming out any time soon. Of course! I had a prenatal appointment yesterday and I’m only dilated 1cm. My cervix is still sitting high and there’s a chance that I could go all the way to 40 weeks. I’ll be shocked if I do because the contractions that I’ve been experiencing are starting to feel a bit painful and productive, but we’ll see what happens. To celebrate my official release from bed rest today, I went to Target (alone!) and got a mani/pedi. I feel like a new woman! A heavily pregnant woman, but a new woman nonetheless! If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you know I used to answer a little survey in my pregnancy updates for babies #1 and #2. I decided to bring it back today just for fun.
How far along are you? 36 weeks and two days.
How big is baby? According to The Bump, she’s the size of a papaya or 5 and a half pounds. She was measuring just under 5 pounds a month ago so I’m pretty sure she’s bigger than 5.5 pounds now. The photos above were taken at 35 weeks (left) and 36 weeks.
Total weight gain? I’m 5 pounds above my starting weight as of today. If you include the weight I lost in the first trimester, I’ve gained 20 pounds.
How are you feeling? I’m so uncomfortable. In my past pregnancies, I was dealing with a lot of heartburn and even some nausea at this point, but this time I’m just super uncomfortable. I can hardly sleep because my hip and pelvic pain is so bad. I also feel like bed rest stole the little bit of strength and stamina that I had so walking around, attempting to complete household chores or just chasing my kids around leaves me exhausted. I’m starting to worry that I won’t have enough strength to push the baby out, but I’m sure I’ll find it in myself somewhere.
What are you wearing a lot of lately? Leggings, sweatpants and pajamas. My maternity t-shirts are starting to get too short and regular pants dig into the bottom of my belly after wearing them for too long so I just don’t bother wearing real clothes unless I have to.
How’s your sleep? As I mentioned before, my sleep has been terrible because of hip and pelvic pain. And I have to go to the bathroom at least three times every night. Thankfully, my amazing husband has been dealing with all night wakings from Harper and Avery so at least I don’t have to deal with that for now. I’ll be waking up plenty in a few weeks.
Food cravings or aversions? Throughout this pregnancy I’ve had two major cravings: lasagna and Japanese food. I can’t even guess how many Stouffer’s lasagnas I’ve consumed over the last nine months. Lately, I’ve been craving grilled cheese sandwiches and eat one for lunch almost every day.
Best Moment So Far? There have been so many great moments in the past eight months so I don’t think I can pick a “best,” but I will say that one of my favorite things about this pregnancy is that Harper is old enough to know what’s happening. She knows the baby’s name and says hi to her and “hugs” her all the time. And she uses her Doc McStuffins stethoscope to listen to her heartbeat at least once a day. It’s so adorable! Those moments remind me that these back to back pregnancies have been more than worth it.
What are you looking forward to? Giving birth! I’m actually super excited to experience natural birth again. And I’m definitely looking forward to not being pregnant anymore.
