My grandmother always brags that she taught me how to read at three years old. She spent the night with us often and always read in bed. I wanted to be just like her so I would climb into bed with my own book, holding it upside down, and make up my own stories. She says that she got tired of listening to these made-up stories so she taught me how to read. And I’ve loved reading ever since. Because of this, I always thought that I would be that mom who birthed bookworms and read to her children all day long. In reality, Harper is just now, at almost three years old, starting to enjoy reading books.
I’m typically in charge of putting the girls to bed (because Sam works late a few nights a week) and we’ve settled into a really great bedtime routine just us girls. We do baths, jammas (as Harper calls them), brush our teeth, read two books (sometimes three) and then we turn the lights off and say our prayers. Last night, as I was picking out our bedtime books, it occurred to me that I should start sharing our favorites. I’m always looking for new books and we have been gifted some really fantastic ones. So for this new Baby Book Club series, I’ll be sharing a few of our favorites each month. This month, I chose books with characters who look like my girls. I hope you and your babies enjoy them!
