I love to read. I read everything from memoirs to literary fiction to parenting books. I’ve been known to finish an entire book in 48 hours, despite the fact that I have three little people running around my house. And I’ve been this way ever since I was a child. So naturally, one of my biggest fears as a mother is that my children won’t like to read. (Isn’t that just like a mom to worry about something that their children aren’t even capable of doing yet.)
A few months ago, I watched Kelly Corrigan’s TEDx Talk on reading and was heartbroken to hear that many people stop reading after they graduate from high school or college. But then I remembered that I wasn’t taught about the joy of reading for pleasure while I was in school. I learned that at home. And I hope that, by reading while I nurse my babies and saying yes to one more book at bedtime and never ever saying no to buying a new book, I’m helping my children to find that joy.
Recently, I decided to join Usborne Books & More as a consultant because I want to help families build little libraries and promote literacy within their homes. At the same time, I can continue to add to our little library and encourage my kids to fall in love with reading. And it doesn’t hurt that it gives me something to do besides change diapers and chase toddlers.
If you’re interested in the books and would like to learn more, follow along @buildinglittlelibraries. I will be highlighting my favorite Usborne titles, sharing new releases and gushing about how much I love this company on that account. And if you’d like to buy some books for your little ones, or other little people in your life, visit buildinglittlelibraries.com. And lastly, if you’d like to host an Usborne Books & More party, please let me know. You will earn FREE books just for hosting!
I am so excited about this new adventure for my family and I hope that you will join me in whatever way you can!
