Bumpdate // Week 10

I’m a few days late posting this week’s bumpdate because Sam and I were out of town this weekend for my family reunion. I didn’t bring my computer with me because I wanted a few days of uninterrupted family time. It was so much fun, but I am exhausted! My baby might still be tiny, but my body has officially settled into pregnancy. I can fall asleep in seconds and my stamina is nonexistent. A simple game of cornhole in the sun almost took me out! Let’s see what else is new this week…

How far along are you? 10 weeks and 3 days.

How big is baby? The size of a prune. He/she is an inch and a half long now!

Total weight gain? I think it’s still around 5 or 6 pounds. I’ll know for sure later this week when I go back to the doctor.

How are you feeling? AWFUL! In the time since my last bumpdate, my morning sickness has progressed from simple nausea to nausea and vomiting. Not every day, but enough to make me miserable. I’ve also started having daily headaches. I’m really hoping this is the worst of it and I’m counting down the weeks until the second trimester.

What are you wearing a lot of lately? Summer dresses, flowy tank tops and leggings. Old Navy has a ton of great dresses and tank tops right now!

Have you noticed any stretch marks yet? None yet!

How’s your sleep? I’m sleeping better as long as we keep our bedroom freezing cold. I also have to sleep with three pillows: two under my head and one in between my legs.

Food cravings? PB&J sandwiches. They fill me up without making me feel sick. I also crave ice cream most nights, but I try not to indulge because dairy doesn’t usually agree with me.

Food aversions? This isn’t technically an aversion because I still love it, but I’ve noticed that I can’t handle hot sauce or anything too spicy anymore. And I loooove hot sauce (especially Cholula hot sauce). I’ll be mourning this loss for a while.

What are you looking forward to? Having an actual baby bump. I will be extremely happy when I get out of this majorly bloated phase.

Any milestones this week? I’m finally in the double digits! 10 weeks down, 30 to go!

Bumpdate // Week 9 (take two)

8w6d ultrasound 1 copyThis week has certainly been one for the books! Because of a tiny scare in the beginning of the week, we had an early ultrasound yesterday. Thankfully, we had nothing to worry about! More importantly, we saw our little nugget for the first time AND heard his/her heartbeat. I could’ve listened to that sound all day long. Isn’t it so crazy how differently you view an ultrasound picture once it’s your baby? It was such a relief to see our baby and know that he/she is healthy and thriving! I did receive some slightly unfortunate news though: I’m a week behind what we originally thought. So I have a new February due date and I have to do week 9 over again. I’m just hoping that doesn’t equal an extra week of morning sickness as well. I’m not going to do a bumpdate survey this week since my last one was on Monday and not much has changed since then. I’ll save the next bumpdate for my real week 10 next Friday.

Happy 4th of July!

Bumpdate // Week 9

Time for my second bumpdate! This picture of my wedding shoes and my flower girl’s shoes makes me really want to have a baby girl. I love the idea of incorporating elements from our wedding (like my veil and sash) in her newborn pictures. The photo has nothing to do with this bumpdate, but I keep forgetting to ask Sam to take a picture of me so it’s all I’ve got today. I don’t really have a bump yet anyway. Just tons of bloat! So here’s what’s happening this week…

How far along are you? 9 weeks and 3 days.

How big is baby? The size of a grape (or an olive). Just under an inch long and not even a full ounce yet.

Total weight gain? 5 pounds – which slightly stresses me out because I’ve been advised (based on my pre-pregnancy weight) to keep my weight gain between 20-25 pounds. I’m trying not to worry about it too much until after I get through the first trimester and want to eat something other than carbs all day everyday.

How are you feeling? Still gross. I’m nauseous most days from the time I get out of bed until about 5pm. I’m powering through it the best that I can. I can’t get rid of this runny/stuffy nose I got a few weeks back which is more annoying than anything else. I’ve been getting slight headaches more often lately as well. And I am always hot which makes me very thankful that I’m having a Winter baby!

What are you wearing a lot of lately? Leggings and flowy tops. I only have one pair of boyfriend jeans that are still semi-comfortable (thanks to my bloated belly) so I reach for leggings most days. I borrowed a pair of H&M stretchy harem pants from my mom last week and I’ll probably live in those for the next few months as well. I’m excited to have an actual baby bump so I can wear more fitted tops and dresses without worrying that I just look like I put on a lot of newlywed weight.

Have you noticed any stretch marks yet? No yet, but I’ve already started slathering on Burt’s Bees Mama Bee Nourishing Body Oil and Belly Butter every day after I shower. There are so many other belly oils and butters I want to try, but I figured I’d go with a cheaper product in the beginning when my skin isn’t stretching too much.

How’s your sleep? Not great at all. Like I said above, I’m always hot so I toss and turn all night trying to find a cool spot on my pillow. Overall, I’m uncomfortable because I feel…heavier. I even have to sleep with a pillow in between my legs already. The crazy dreams and frequent bathroom trips definitely aren’t helping either. I didn’t think this would start so early! Does anyone have any tips to help with this?

Food cravings? Cereal (Cinnamon Life mostly) and Pho Chicken. Weird…I know.

Food aversions? Didn’t notice any specific ones this week, but it is getting much more difficult to choose what I want to eat each day because nothing ever sounds good. I blame the nausea.

Best moment this week? Being able to freely talk about the baby and the pregnancy now that everyone knows about it.

What are you looking forward to? My 12 week prenatal appointment where we’ll hear the baby’s heartbeat for the first time!

Any milestones this week? According to The Bump, my baby has graduated from an embryo to a fetus so that’s exciting!

Are there any other questions I should add to my weekly bumpdate survey?

We’re Having A Baby!

10996899_10102457709876579_5653225696854829005_nIf you follow me on Instagram, you’ve probably already heard the big news: Sam and I are expecting our first baby! Just shy of three months into our marriage, and only a month and a half after I wrote this, we got the happiest surprise of our lives! And I’m already counting down the weeks until we get to meet this little nugget.

I will be doing weekly “Bumpdates” on the blog, but I figured I’d lump the first few eight weeks together since they’ve already passed. Speaking of which, I am 8 weeks and 5 days pregnant right now (due at the end of January). To most women, that is insanely early to announce a pregnancy, but for me, keeping the secret only reminded me that something could go wrong. The first week or so, I was terrified that I wasn’t really pregnant or that something would go wrong and I couldn’t let myself go on like that – it wouldn’t be healthy for me or the baby. I also knew that if something did go wrong, I would inevitably end up writing about it anyway. So I chose to step out on faith and outwardly enjoy every moment of my pregnancy, which includes sharing it with all of you from the beginning. So I hope you enjoy following along!

How We Found Out

I went off of my birth control at the end of April, but not because I was trying to get pregnant. I didn’t really like the pill I was on, and Sam and I knew we wanted to start trying at the end of the year, so we agreed to try natural family planning for a few months. I figured it would take a few months for my system to regulate itself so I could figure out my new cycle. Well, obviously my body was ready because 35 days later, I was running into Sam’s office with a positive pregnancy test and a shocked look on my face.

For the first two weeks, my symptoms included heartburn, crazy dreams, sore boobs, bloating and a little cramping. Despite all of that, I still complained to Sam that I didn’t really “feel” pregnant. Well, my baby decided to make his/her presence known during week six when morning sickness struck and I immediately regretted ever complaining. I haven’t had any vomiting (yet), but I pretty much feel carsick every day until about 4pm. I also got a cold during week seven that I’m still trying to get rid of completely. I’m also ALWAYS tired and I yawn about a thousand times a day, but for some reason I’m not sleeping that well. I think it’s all of the crazy dreams. My sense of smell is at an all-time high too. Sometimes I can’t even identify the smell – I just know that I need to get away from it immediately.

Food Cravings and Aversions

I haven’t had too many cravings or aversions. I actually find it really difficult to choose what I want to eat. Usually nothing sounds good, despite my growling stomach. I have noticed that lemonade helps with the nausea. I’m also really into bagels right now. The only food aversions I’ve noticed are fish and anything with a really strong smell. I’ve also noticed that my sweet tooth has diminished greatly. I used to keep tons of candy in the house and now I hardly ever even think about it. I’m also having a really hard time cooking. I don’t know if it’s the fatigue or the fact that I’d like to avoid raw meat at all costs, but we’ve been eating a lot of takeout in the Everett household lately (my poor husband).

I’ll stop there for today so that I can save the rest for my week 9 Bumpdate (on Friday). If you have specific questions or topics you would like me to cover each week, please let me know. I’m really hoping to get back to my regular posts next week as well, now that I can (somewhat) manage the nausea and fatigue. If anyone has any tips or advice on how to power through the workday during the first trimester, leave me a comment. I’d love to hear from you!
