Father’s Day is less than two weeks away and I have two dads to shop for this year: my dad and Harper’s dad! My dad is super easy to shop for – all he ever asks for is golf gear. Sam, on the other hand, is a little harder because he always claims that he doesn’t want or need anything. I spent a lot of time online shopping yesterday and I wanted to share what I found in case anyone else needed a little help. I think I’ve picked something for every dad on your shopping list!

Even though this was a short week, I am so happy to see the weekend. Last weekend, while visiting my family for Memorial Day, I started to feel sick, but I figured it was just my allergies coming back since the weather had finally cleared up. I felt a little achy, but I chalked it up to being more active. Then, on Monday night, Harper woke up about 30 minutes after she had fallen asleep screaming her head off. I noticed that her nose was congested so I cleaned it out, nursed her a bit to calm her down and put her back to bed. The next morning, she woke up with a runny nose and a slight fever and I woke up with a ton of guilt for not realizing that I had a cold and not allergies.
When Harper was born (six weeks early), the doctors and nurses warned us about how dangerous it could be if she got sick within the first 3 months of her life. I worried every time I heard her sneeze (not an exaggeration). I’m so thankful that her first cold didn’t come until she was 5 months old and I’m even more thankful that it was pretty mild. 90% of the time she was her normal, happy self and the other times I could calm her down pretty quickly by holding or nursing her. Her nighttime sleep included a few more wakeups, but her naps actually got better so I’m not complaining. But I’m definitely happy that Sam will be here this weekend to help me get a little more sleep.
Here are the highlights from this week and weekend…
// aden + anais is on Zulily this weekend! They have super cute Summer styles for up to 50% off. I’m trying to decide between this romper or this top and these bloomers. They also have a few of the towel and washcloth sets I talked about on Wednesday and a few sets of washcloths.
// These 2-year-old triplets are in love with their garbage collectors and it is the sweetest thing ever.
// I shared this blogpost about #MomLife on my personal Facebook page last month and I had to share it here too. You’ll definitely want to bookmark it to come back to on the hard days.
// I have a question for my mommy readers: what is the best baby food maker on the market? Harper will be starting solids in a few weeks and I’m starting to get prepared. I’d also love to know what tools you used when feeding your babies, as well as what brands of store-bought food you reccomend. Tell me everything!
// Old Navy had a Super Cash event that ended 5/30 and I shop there so much that I have three $10 coupons to use starting tomorrow. I’m thinking about using them to buy Harper a few 6-9 and 6-12 month items since her 3-6 month clothing fits perfectly right now. But even if you don’t have any coupons, you can get 30% off your entire order today for National Donut Day! You can see the items I have in my cart (plus a few I’ve already purchased) below.
I’m back with the second post in my Newborn Essentials series and today we’re talking about something that caused me a great deal of anxiety when Harper was a newborn: bathtime. The first time I gave Harper a bath was in the NICU a few days before she came home from the hospital. A nurse walked me through every single step and Harper loved every second of it, especially getting her hair shampooed. So you can imagine how surprised I was when we bathed her at home for the first time and she screamed through the entire thing. She kept screaming through every bath for probably the first month of her life. Thankfully, she grew out of it, or we finally figured out what we were doing, and now bathtime is one of our favorite times of the day. These are the products that were invaluable to us during the first three months and we still use many of them now.
Now that we are almost two months out of the newborn stage, I’ve been packing up a lot of the items we depended on during Harper’s first three months of life and purchasing new things for the fun, interactive stage that we’re in now. While doing so, I’ve been thinking a lot about the things that I used on a daily basis during the first three months. I read so many blog posts about newborn baby products while I was pregnant and now that I’ve survived my own newborn phase, I wanted to create my own in hopes that it may help another new mama. It will also be helpful to look back on when I’m preparing for our future children.
I’m breaking this series up into categories because there are SO many products that I want to talk about. I decided to begin with eating and sleeping because that is all newborns do during those first few months. Below you’ll find a short review on each product as well as a link to purchase each item (most can be purchased at Target or on Amazon). You can also click directly on each item in the collage above to shop this post. If there are any products you would like me to do a full review on, just let me know in the comments and I’d be happy to! Grab some coffee because this is a long one…
Ever since I found out I was having a baby girl last Fall, I have found it impossible to shop without buying something for Harper. Just yesterday, I went into Old Navy looking for a Memorial Day outfit for myself and came out with three outfits for her. Granted, baby clothes are (usually) much cheaper than the items on my wishlist, but every now and then I should be able to get something new for myself, right? These are the five things on my wishlist this week!
1 // LuMee iPhone 6 Plus Case — I actually bought myself this case (in rose gold) last week when Good Morning America had a discount code for 50% off. This case has LED lights on both sides of it, creating the perfect lighting for selfies. So unnecessary and yet totally worth it.
2 // Ivy Park Linear Print V-Waistband Leggings – I am slowly, but surely trying to get back into a workout routine now that the weather is starting to cooperate and Harper has started liking her stroller again. I’m always looking for workout clothes that are cute enough for me to wear all day since I never know when I’ll actually be able to squeeze a workout in. These are perfect for that.
3 // GlamGlow GLOWSTARTER Mega Illuminating Moisturizer – I have had combination/oily skin for as long as I can remember and never had to deal with dry/dehydrated skin until I gave birth. I don’t know if it’s the hormones (that are still out of whack five months later) or what, but my skin is super dry and the pregnancy glow has definitely left the building. I have always loved GlamGlow products so I’m sure this moisturizer could help bring some life back to my skin.
4 // Soludos Wraparound Tassel Tie Flat Sandal – This sandal is an absolute must-have for Summer. I love the colors, I love the simplicity of it and I love that it’s under $100!
5 // Kate Spade New York ‘State of Mind” Pendant Necklace – Although I grew up not too far outside of Washington, D.C., I currently live in a small town in the Shenandoah Valley. I could write a million words about why I want to move back to Northern Virginia, but I’m
forcing myself learning to love the small town life. This necklace might help me love it just a little bit more.
What are you treating yourself to this week?
