Hello Friends! Is anyone still there?
It’s been over a year since my last blog post. Major fail! I’ve been thinking about this blog and compiling lists of blog post ideas in my head for months and now I’m finally sitting down to write. There are small children crawling around under my desk and Ferdinand is playing in the background, but I am determined to just start. No more waiting for the perfect creative moment.
So where have I been for the last year? Let’s start at the beginning…
On October 3, 2017, I gave birth to a 7lb 5oz baby girl named Avery Jean. I’m currently writing her birth story (as well as her big sister’s), but until then I’ll tell you that, with one painful exception, it was a perfect birth. And she was a perfect newborn. Slept well from the beginning. Nursed well from day one. She made the transition from one child to two a complete breeze and she is still an absolute dream!
On January 1, 2018, as we were packing our bags for our annual Green/Everett Disney World family vacation, we got a call that changed our lives. We were asked to consider moving to Orlando to join an amazing church where Sam would serve as the Campus Minister. After some serious prayer, and many discussions with our families, we packed up our apartment and sent Sam to Nashville for ministry training, while the girls and I crashed with my parents. Two months later, we officially moved to the Sunshine State.
The move has been amazing for our family. We love our church and all of the new friends we’ve made. We love the weather — except for when it’s 90 degrees. Nobody needs that much heat. And we love love love being so close to Disney World! (That was probably my biggest selling point to be honest.) We miss our family and friends in Virginia, and I am seriously missing Fall weather right about now, but we absolutely made the right decision. Our family is thriving!
And to top it all off, we are expecting our third baby girl in February 2019. We always wanted a big family, but never imagined it would grow so quickly. I’m not going to lie; being pregnant with two little kids, one of whom refused to wean or touch a bottle of formula until her first birthday (so I was nursing and nauseous for four straight months), has been TOUGH. I stayed in my house for the entire first trimester. But we’re at the halfway point now and I’m starting to feel like myself again. Or as much like myself as I can feel while growing a whole person.
The girls are doing so well! Harper started preschool in August and loves it more than she loves stickers (and if you know her, you know that girl lives for stickers!). Avery celebrated her first birthday a few weeks ago. She is still the easiest baby ever and is *this* close to walking. Sam is loving his new career in ministry and, despite being pretty reluctant to leave Virginia, is a full-blown Floridian now. And I am finally ready to get back to what I love doing; writing this blog. I have missed using my brain for something other than “momming.” I love my children so much, and I’m beyond blessed to stay home with them, but mommy needs to talk to adults too!
I’m so excited about my new vision for this blog. It will definitely be a “mommy blog” going forward since that is my life, but it’s going to be about all aspects of mommy life. That includes things like reviews of baby products, what “self care” actually looks like for mothers of small children and tips on potty training (I will definitely be interviewing other moms for that one because I’m deep in the potty training trenches right now.) I’ve been pregnant for what feels like two years straight, and I’m about to give birth for the third time, which means I’m a self-proclaimed expert on those topics and can’t stop talking about them, even to people who couldn’t care less. So you can expect to see posts about postpartum essentials, adventures in breastfeeding and how to survive a natural childbirth. But don’t worry, I still love fashion and beauty and home design and all of that fun stuff so you’ll find posts on those topics here too.
Thank you for sticking with me! Some of you have been reading my blog since I was a law student talking about running and losing weight. Some of you are in the same stage of life as me, some are ahead of me (giving me the BEST advice!) and some are coming up quickly behind. And I love that! So thank you thank you thank you for following along, for encouraging me, for being patient with me and for listening to what I have to say. I love you all!
