I have a confession: I collect diaper bags. After I had my first baby, I traded my handbag obsession for a baby bag obsession. I’m definitely not that mom who only has one diaper bag or who just throws a diaper and a pack of wipes into her purse. Over the years, I’ve narrowed down my diaper bag preferences and I’m always on the hunt for the one that meets all of my needs. Now that I’ll be packing for three kids, it’s imperative that my bag is easy to organize, easy to carry (lightweight and comfortable straps), spacious enough for everything I need to pack and cute (of course).
I ordered the TwelveLittle Companion Backpack just after the holidays and I absolutely love it. I chose the old version of this bag because it was on sale for $80 (as opposed to $179). The only differences between the old version and the new version are the lining (the new one has a gray polka dot lining) and the vegan leather trim on the front pocket (the new version doesn’t have this). Everything else in this review applies to both versions of the bag. Unfortunately, the old version of the leopard print is no longer available (they still have it in black for $80 though!), but you can find the new version on the TwelveLittle website or at Nordstrom (if you want to rack up those reward points!)
The Companion backpack is made out of water-resistant nylon. It has a grab handle (a must-have) and very comfortable backpack straps. On the outside, there’s a zippered pocket at the top, a larger zippered “mommy pocket” on the front, two insulated bottle pockets and a hidden zippered pocket on the back. On the inside, there are five pockets: two stretchy pockets, two vegan leather-lined pockets and one zippered pocket. It also includes a changing pad that folds up compactly and easily fits into any of the pockets.
For this review, I packed it as I would for all three of my kids. I was able to fit a change of clothes and diapers for all of them (Harper is 95% potty trained, but I carry a change of clothes and a pull-up for her, just in case). I was also able to fit pouches with snacks and medical needs, as well as a burp cloth and a nursing cover for the baby. In the front, I packed a full size wallet and a few mommy needs (lip balm, hand cream, etc.). The bottle pockets are very spacious so I’m able to carry two sippy cups with no problem, and will still have space inside the bag for a baby bottle if I need it.
I was really nervous about finding a diaper bag that would work for three kids, but I think I found it! I try not to overpack, but I also like to be prepared in case we’re out all day. Thankfully, this bag can fit everything I need without getting too heavy or bulky. I love the print and think it will work year-round. And I’m really looking forward to using it on our Disney days!
If you’re interested in this bag, it comes in multiple colors and prints which I’ve linked below. It also comes in a “Little” version for kids! And don’t forget that you can still get a few of the discontinued colors on the TwelveLittle website for a reduced price! I’ve also linked everything (or almost everything) that I used inside the bag below, in case you’re interested!
