I’m in a few mom groups on Facebook and one question I see at least once a week is “What are the best shoes for new walkers?” While it’s best for babies to be barefoot when they’re learning to walk, it’s not always feasible. Avery spent most of the first year of her life barefoot, but we live in Florida now where the weather is always hot. Harper, our Virginia baby, was rarely barefoot outside of our house. We even bought her a pair of slippers to keep her feet warm indoors (see photo below).
There are tons of shoes out there that are marketed for new walkers. Some are super practical, but not very cute. Others are adorable, but not actually great for developing feet and ankles. When Harper was a baby, I discovered the brand Robeez and decided that it would be my go-to brand for all of my babies during the cruising and learning to walk phase.
The thing I love most about Robeez is that their soft soles are made of suede. Not only are they soft enough for baby to still feel the floor beneath them, but they also keep them from slipping on hard surfaces. We have tile floors in our condo and Avery has never once slipped when she’s wearing her Robeez on them. The other thing I love about Robeez is how stinking cute they are! They come in a ton of colors and prints for boys and girls. My only complaint about this brand is that their shoes (and clothes) run extremely big. Avery, who is admittedly petite, still wears 0-6m in their shoes at one year old. So definitely size down when ordering!
Avery is in the very beginning stages of walking (she’s up to 8 steps!) and she’s just about to grow out of the pair I bought for her when I was pregnant (pictured above). So I have this pair and this pair in my Nordstrom.com cart right now. I also love these for the new baby!
Have you tried Robeez for your baby?
