We’re Having A Baby!

10996899_10102457709876579_5653225696854829005_nIf you follow me on Instagram, you’ve probably already heard the big news: Sam and I are expecting our first baby! Just shy of three months into our marriage, and only a month and a half after I wrote this, we got the happiest surprise of our lives! And I’m already counting down the weeks until we get to meet this little nugget.

I will be doing weekly “Bumpdates” on the blog, but I figured I’d lump the first few eight weeks together since they’ve already passed. Speaking of which, I am 8 weeks and 5 days pregnant right now (due at the end of January). To most women, that is insanely early to announce a pregnancy, but for me, keeping the secret only reminded me that something could go wrong. The first week or so, I was terrified that I wasn’t really pregnant or that something would go wrong and I couldn’t let myself go on like that – it wouldn’t be healthy for me or the baby. I also knew that if something did go wrong, I would inevitably end up writing about it anyway. So I chose to step out on faith and outwardly enjoy every moment of my pregnancy, which includes sharing it with all of you from the beginning. So I hope you enjoy following along!

How We Found Out

I went off of my birth control at the end of April, but not because I was trying to get pregnant. I didn’t really like the pill I was on, and Sam and I knew we wanted to start trying at the end of the year, so we agreed to try natural family planning for a few months. I figured it would take a few months for my system to regulate itself so I could figure out my new cycle. Well, obviously my body was ready because 35 days later, I was running into Sam’s office with a positive pregnancy test and a shocked look on my face.

Symptoms

For the first two weeks, my symptoms included heartburn, crazy dreams, sore boobs, bloating and a little cramping. Despite all of that, I still complained to Sam that I didn’t really “feel” pregnant. Well, my baby decided to make his/her presence known during week six when morning sickness struck and I immediately regretted ever complaining. I haven’t had any vomiting (yet), but I pretty much feel carsick every day until about 4pm. I also got a cold during week seven that I’m still trying to get rid of completely. I’m also ALWAYS tired and I yawn about a thousand times a day, but for some reason I’m not sleeping that well. I think it’s all of the crazy dreams. My sense of smell is at an all-time high too. Sometimes I can’t even identify the smell – I just know that I need to get away from it immediately.

Food Cravings and Aversions

I haven’t had too many cravings or aversions. I actually find it really difficult to choose what I want to eat. Usually nothing sounds good, despite my growling stomach. I have noticed that lemonade helps with the nausea. I’m also really into bagels right now. The only food aversions I’ve noticed are fish and anything with a really strong smell. I’ve also noticed that my sweet tooth has diminished greatly. I used to keep tons of candy in the house and now I hardly ever even think about it. I’m also having a really hard time cooking. I don’t know if it’s the fatigue or the fact that I’d like to avoid raw meat at all costs, but we’ve been eating a lot of takeout in the Everett household lately (my poor husband).

I’ll stop there for today so that I can save the rest for my week 9 Bumpdate (on Friday). If you have specific questions or topics you would like me to cover each week, please let me know. I’m really hoping to get back to my regular posts next week as well, now that I can (somewhat) manage the nausea and fatigue. If anyone has any tips or advice on how to power through the workday during the first trimester, leave me a comment. I’d love to hear from you!

Thank you! We love you guys too! I’m dying to meet Tobyn! I hope we have a boy so we can arrange their marriage early lol. I’m really bad at napping, but I have been trying to walk a few times a week. I need to be more diligent about it though.

Soooo excited for you and hubby. Praying for a healthy baby on January 30th so that we can share the same day.
Just LISTEN to your body. It will let you know what you need to do. For me I couldn’t get over my flat tummy turning into a basketball. Awww the miracle of birth. Enjoy every moment ♡♡

Thank you so much! My actual due date is January 29th so there’s a chance the baby will come on your birthday! I’d much rather only be a day late than a week or two haha!
